Why is it called Cold Hawaii?

The name “Cold Hawaii” comes from the area’s unique wind conditions, which are reminiscent of those in Hawaii. Over time, the area has evolved into a small surfer’s paradise, where surfers who now live in Klitmøller have created a vibrant community that has breathed new life into the town. As you approach Klitmøller, it’s not uncommon to see cars with surfboards on their roofs, as surfers from near and far flock here to ride the waves in Cold Hawaii. Several surfing competitions are held each year, and since 2010, Klitmøller has hosted the Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup—an international competition where 32 of the world’s best surfers compete for the title. Interest in the event has grown steadily both in Denmark and abroad, and in 2013, HRH Crown Prince Frederik became patron of the Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup.
