The information room in Nationalparkcenter Thy
Thy National Park Center
Thy National Park is looking forward to welcoming you with open arms in the new Thy National Park Center!
The center is located right on the edge of Nr. Vorupør - so you can get a dose of both city life and nature with a single step. Think of it as a portal between civilization and wilderness.
When you enter Thy National Park Center, you'll be greeted by the ever-smiling volunteer national park rangers who are ready to send you on your way to epic nature experiences in Denmark's answer to the Wild West.
The building is a 700 square meter work of art that is carefully built into the dune. Inside the center you'll find a 300-square-metre interpretation room where you can get a full overview of the landscape with an impressive landscape model. It's like a giant map that shows you where the trails, towns and the greatest nature experiences are hidden. You'll be a true explorer!
The National Park Center is open most of the year (although we can't promise that the weather will always cooperate) and the volunteer hosts are ready to help - as are the information houses at Stenbjerg Landingsplads and Lodbjerg Fyr. And as an added bonus, there are new public toilets that are almost always open. So you're never far from a break in nature's quiet space.
The building also houses meeting rooms and offices for the National Park Foundation's board of directors, who have a great view when they hold meetings about important things like making sure the sand doesn't blow away.
The landscape model
The mighty landscape model sits in the middle of the large information room. It gives you an overview of Thy National Park - like a GPS, but with more wow factor. With a digital layer, you can dive into the landscape's character, paths and stories. And at regular intervals, a movie about the formation of the landscape is shown. Spoiler alert: It's an epic story of Stone Age seas and sand drifts that will make anyone appreciate a day at the beach.
You can also listen to stories about 12 of the national park's most important interpretation points - in Danish, English and German, so everyone can join in. Perfect for those who like a little background info while scouting for rare birds or just looking for the best picnic spot.
The landscape wall
The landscape wall gives you a glimpse of how the dune landscape is divided into different plant communities - from the raw beach and white dune to the west to the gray dune and dune heath to the east. East of them is the planted dune plantation, which is a bit like the dunes' backyard. The gray dune and dune heath is where the biodiversity is greatest and you can find the most animals and plants - this is the wild side of Thy National Park!
In a nutshell: Come and experience the wild side of nature - with a little city life on the sidelines and a toilet facility that never sleeps.
